Digital Forensics: from the crime lab to the library

There is a major issue in preserving deprecated data formats in the modern day. With more and more advancements and file types premodern documentation is being lost due to the issues of deciphering.

These issues have compounded with the need for law enforcement to store and recover data. Law enforcement has even developed tools in order to recover hidden disk space as well as unused and deleted data. Unfortunately many of these software's are extremely expensive and only available for commercial use. However there are still some tools such as BitCurator
