Just turning your phone on qualifies as searching it, court rules

Generally courts can compel you to use your face or fingerprint to unlock your phone. However they cannot compel you to share knowledge such as your PIN.

The case presented in the article describes a case in which the court found that an officer just turning on your phone counts as a search, even just looking at the lock screen.
